Shoot the swifts down the middle (shallow with boulders on the right) then ferry over to the beach on your right. There's a beautiful "improved" campsite here, with a rock staircase leading up to it -- mitigating some of serious erosion along the bank here. (Shane added the bottom two stairs on our weekend trip in 2000). The portage trail starts at the end of the beach. It's fairly wide but a little rough. Up & down, some rock hopping, a little scrambly in spots. Towards the end of the trail are the remains of an old pointer boat, rapidly disintegrating. It IS possible to line much of this, but you'd have to weigh the effort of it against the relatively short portage. Pulling over the big ledge at the end may require unloading anyway.
