The portage is on the right bank. You can portage (left) alongside the
river or take the old "road" (right) which begins about 100 meters along
the trail. As you'd expect, the "road" is both longer and smoother,
although the extra length is almost insignificant and more than
compensated for by the ease of travel. The river trail is much
prettier, but it does involve a bit of boulder hopping. There are several campsites along these trails -- a good spot for large parties to spread out. If the water isn't too shallow (as it was in mid-July), and you choose to run the Class II between the falls, excercise great caution and make sure you know where those lower falls begin!
